AHA - Byronius is away, cats will play…..

beegees_first_lp.jpgKnowing that our Lord and Master is not around is the perfect timing to get in some more torture.

Today my topic will be The BeeGees.  He will LOVE this one.  First off, this is a very serious topic to me.  This is the music that I love best in the world, not the disco crap everyone thinks of, their early work, more folkie and just all-around great love songs.  My soulmate and I listen to this music and call it “the music” and he’s an urban rapper-type with a not-so good decision-making history, so it proves even very “tough” men can be sensitive.

We think it’s immortal timeless stuff, Byron will claim that he just can’t stomach a single thing about it.  HOWEVER, I do have a secret to share, and that is that he once listened to some of the older stuff and liked it.  And admitted it.  See, I’ve got the dirt on him more than you think.  Yes, admitted it.

I wish I could remember exactly what song he liked but it’s either “New York Mining Disaster 1941″ or something of that era.  Let me make a few suggestions to any of you who are doubting that this music can be more than falsetto.  I’d suggest ”Elisa,” and probably “Run To Me.”  And if those are not enough, throw in “I’ve Just Gotta Get a Message to You” and “I Started A Joke.”  Of course the quintessential BEE GEES must be “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart,” which, in a recent conversation, many people think the Bee Gees remade it after Al Green.  UH, NO.  They CREATED it.  It’s The BeeGees song to hear if you can only hear one.

Byron, this is what you get for taking off and doing other things this weekend.

Peace!

“I could never see tomorrow, no one said a word about the sorrow!”  Notice, I don’t have the power to put music here, or the knowledge I don’t THINK, and if that’s true, he probably LIKES that.

And of course, he gets me the 4-cd collection of the BeeGees, just happens to download the whole thing and send it to me….not that HE wants it for himself of course.

The meanie actually came back and taught me how to provide the music, so here it is!!

Fuck the BeeGees. Fuck them in their bloated asses and kill them.

New York Mining Disaster is very folk-like, and I’d never know it was by the BeeGees if I wasn’t told. So, it passes muster. However, most of the BeeGees repertoire, while popular in its time, just leaves me feeling very pussified. Falsetto voices all the time make my nuggets shrivel.

I can’t put the BeeGees into the “Guilty Pleasure” column of music, because while I may listen to it, tap my feet, even remember bits and pieces of the popular songs at random, I honestly don’t feel good about it. I don’t seek out the music (contrary to the slag wench’s words above), I was just being kind. Let’s see if she ever gets a present again, eh?

So the BeeGees haunt my brain, like the bogeyman haunts a child. Except the BeeGees are/were real, they hide in record collections across the world, and are now jumping out from behind cranial cobwebs onto unsuspecting adults who were exposed to this toxic aural brew as children. It’s like “A Nightmare On Elm Street” meets Union Carbide… the mind recoils.

I guess you’re just a walking mutant if you survived the 70s.

    Brainsssssss….

Um listen, Byronius, most of the Beegees before 1975 was just like “NY mining Disaster” maybe you should give them a chance…..a little more than assuming it’s all the same? The disco part is NOTHING compared to their real work!
