Opinion - Pajamas Media - Careful Use of Limited Resources
I tend to be both conservative and liberal in my views, summing it up inadequately as “Socially Liberal, Fiscally Conservative.” My views are based on individual freedoms, and I tend to stick with that philosophy. However, this is all preamble to say why I will critique conservative blogs. I read them far more than liberal blogs, so there’s more fodder for my musings. Onward:
Careful Use of Limited Resources
October 24, 2006 2:30 PM
One of the Britain’s leading hospitals, Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, is throwing aborted babies into the trash incinerator to save US$34 per fetus. Hospital managers said they had to take the decision after ‘significant increases’ in the fees charged by Cambridge City Crematorium, where they were previously buried or cremated. The hospital, under pressure along with the rest of the NHS to make millions of pounds of savings, said it was trying to be ‘careful with the use of limited resources’. (UK Mail)
The only reason this article is mentioned by a conservative blog is because it involves fetuses. I’m sure if the article mentioned dead terrorists being burned in incinerators, there might be some glee expressed. I, however, will take issue only with the means of disposal mentioned above.
Humans are not special creatures that should be handled with the utmost care. We eat, shit, fuck and kill like most of the other predatory species on this planet, and I have no qualms with that. However, when people get upset about fetuses being thrown in an incinerator (trash) instead of an incinerator (crematorium), I have to roll my eyes.
The corpse doesn’t give a fuck what you do with it. The only people who care are those alive to witness it and hear about it, and the consciences they’ve developed tend to need soothing. Of course this soothing may cost someone else buckets of money, but as long as their consciences are happy, whatever was done is okay.
These same people would, of course, complain — and rightly so — about politicians spending their tax dollars for frivilous things, or gov’t imposing more expenses on businesses. But dead human bits, well that’s another story.
Not for me.
Unless the relatives want to pay for a certain type of disposal that will salve their consciences, the place where the hospital burns to ash the fetuses is no big deal to me. They save money, the fetus is disposed, same difference.
Oh, and if you decide to attack me on this, stick to the facts and leave your conjecture about me on the doorstep.
Go on, write a comment, I know many will be disgusted with my views. :>
