	Ideally, you are right, everyone should be judged on their individual merits. I know for a fact there are peaceful Muslims and hateful Muslims. However, how is one to judge on first impressions? When some people draw upon their faith to justify killing, no matter the faith, then everyone of that faith becomes suspect. If it were Buddhists who had bombed embassies, bombed nightclubs, beheaded journalists and hijacked planes to use as missiles, then there would be little chance I’d trust a Buddhist on first meeting. I would consider them all suspect based on the acts of their ideological bretheren. I could be certain that some Buddhists would not hold the same values as those who suicide-bomb, but I couldn’t be sure which is which. I’d have to assume the teachings they all had learned could breed the same mindset as the murderous ones. So now wariness becomes the rule of thumb when someone proclaims themself a Muslim. I can wish it were different, but the only way to eliminate the wariness is to have more Muslims condemn the violent acts of their ideological bretheren. Little is publicly heard from the Muslim community against these acts; the loudest voices are the ones of praise for the attacks. When the crashing wave of damnation for these acts of violence is heard from the Muslim community, that is when the tide of opinion about Muslims will start to change. Asalaam Alikum.

9/11 Documentary

On September 11, 2001, filmmakers Jules and Gedeon Naudet (and James Hanlon) were filming a documentary on a rookie New York City firefighter when they noticed a plane overhead. That plane would hit the World Trade Center. The firefighter and the Naudets rushed immediately to the scene. The Naudets filmed throughout Sept. 11 and the days afterward from the firemen’s perspective, as it became clear to them that this was the only known footage from inside the Twin Towers that day.

One of them was INSIDE WTC1 minutes after the first plane hit, and later WHILE WTC2 collapsed! I saw this film years ago and I’ve never forgotten about it. The footage is amazing, the editing is superb, the emotion is intense. It’s a must-see film, so if CBS pulls it before you get a chance to watch it, go buy it on Amazon or wherever you want. The Amazon link above is not an affiliate link, so I’m not pushing it to earn any cash… I believe this film is fantastic and I sincerely wish people to see it and to never forget what extremists will do to get their own way.

I could write a monumental tome trying to piece together everything surrounding 9/11, but it’s such a quagmire I don’t think it would help. The blame-game is virtually pointless, so it comes down to what you, personally, stand for.

I heard somewhere recently (I think in the movie “The Libertine”): “It’s easy to be against something, but sometime you have to grow up and be FOR something.” It’s very true.

I think the meddling of the United States in foreign affairs brought emnity with it, but how can we not meddle in foreign affairs when we’re all part of a global society, a global market. The United States is probably the most powerful country on the planet, but we haven’t always acted responsibly with our power. More terrorism on U.S. soil was inevitable, and it was spectacular in it’s horror and fury.

The mouse may scare the elephant away, the elephant may crush the mouse, but while both exist in the same moment, terror and hope radiates outward to infinite horizons.

Hope is better. Let’s not forget the terror and work towards a better future.

I’ve enjoyed the Foamy The Squirrel cartoons by Jonathan Ian Mathers, so I set up all I could find on my own site. It’s usually a rant cartoon, but it has some decent commentary and an odd stroke-induced genius to it. Foamy is the main character, but Germaine, the supposed owner, is Foamy’s perfect straight-(wo)man foil. Other characters come and go, but those two are the mainstays.

The first one I saw was the maple syrup one (Episode 78, Pancake Madness), and then I just had to see the rest. Some suck, some are laugh-out-loud funny, but all are appreciated.

So I upgraded my flash when a security vulnerability was discovered, but how do I know if I’m running the new version? Luckily, the page I link to above, located on the Macromedia website, told me the exact version of flash I had installed (not just “version 8″ which is pointless to know when you’re upgrading within versions).
